Narrative

A woman puts her career on hold to become a housewife, but soon her life as a maid takes a surreal turn. The film was originally planned to be streamed directly to Hulu, but positive reviews at test screenings prompted Searchlight Pictures to give it a wide theatrical release instead.

Rating – 5.2: In general, a rather bad film, it feels like it was made for “Booktok”. ; There is little Amy Adams can do, given the stupidity of the story, despite her strong messages about the struggles of motherhood.

Director’s work – Very bad: directing on a macroscopic scale is very simple and pleasant, it gives the impression that this film was shot openly

for “Buktok”; ; implementation on a microscopic scale is very soft, forced and simple; the story is incredibly simple and fresh, as if my mother was reading this story to me. Story – Bad: the concept is actually very stupid, and it’s obvious that this movie was made for Buktok, because the book is a Buktok book; not only is this concept stupid, but they do a poor job of presenting it and showing its importance, because it seems like a minor detail throughout the film; the plot structure is very simple and clear; The drawing of the characters is quite good, although very revealing, since the main character is a symbol of the struggle with motherhood and the fact that not being a perfect mother is normal.

Climax – The climax is quite drawn out

Story – Pretty bad: dialogues are simple, tasteless and written as if they were for “Buktok”; dialogues are so bad that literally in the first 20 minutes of the film there is a scene where the main character says: “I am Nightbitch”; the humor is good, but very strained; the symbolism is deep, as the entire film is devoted to the struggle of motherhood and the recognition that nothing is a mother or a role model; the foreshadowing is present only because the film is very traditional. Actors – Pretty Good: Amy Adams – Good (Her acting is good only because she’s Amy Adams; she has nothing to work with), Scoot McNairy – Pretty Good (Has pretty good chemistry with Adams and shows her one-sided dynamic well), Other actors – Decent (Many good supporting actors, mostly supporting Adams) Cinematography – Decent: Simple Editing – Decent: Simple Visual Effects – Somewhat Bad: Quite KitschPace – Pace is a bit slow as the narrative moves the story forward.

Tone – The tone gives the impression that this film was made for Booktok

Final Notes – Saw Premiere at the Austin Film Festival; For whom this film is understandable, I am clearly not the target audience; This movie was supposed to save Amy Adams, not destroy her.
